How to wash a Pokémon plush
Almost every Pokémon Center plush carries a care instruction on its tush tag, and it is nearly always one of three: surface wash only, hand wash, or (rarely) machine wash. Each plush listing in this store repeats that instruction under Product details. Here is what each one means in practice and how to do it without flattening the fur or losing the shape.
Read the tag first

Surface washing
- Mix a little mild detergent or baby shampoo into lukewarm water.
- Wring a soft cloth nearly dry and wipe the fabric in the direction of the pile. Work on a small area at a time.
- Wipe again with a cloth dampened in clean water to lift the soap.
- Blot with a dry towel and let the plush air dry away from direct heat. Brush the pile gently with a soft brush once dry.
Surface-wash plush usually have a beanbag base, an internal wire, a foam fill or glued elements that will not survive being soaked. Sitting Cuties fall in this group because of the pellet base.
Hand washing
- Fill a basin with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent.
- Submerge the plush and press gently. Do not scrub or twist.
- Rinse in clean water until it runs clear, pressing the water out between rinses.
- Roll in a towel to remove most of the water, then dry flat or hang as the tag says, reshaping while damp. Keep it out of the sun to protect the colours.
Machine washing, only when the tag allows it
Put the plush in a pillowcase or mesh bag, use a cold gentle cycle with a small amount of detergent, and skip the dryer: heat mats the pile and can melt embroidery thread. Reshape and air dry. Comfy Cuddlers are designed for this; most other lines are not.
Things that damage plush
- Tumble dryers and radiators, which matt fur and warp foam.
- Bleach or stain removers with optical brighteners, which discolour embroidery.
- Soaking anything with a pellet base or wire armature.
- Direct sunlight over weeks, which fades yellow and red fabrics first.
Removing smells and dust
A sealed bag with a little baking soda for a day or two takes out most odours without water. Regular dusting with a soft brush or a vacuum on low with a cloth over the nozzle keeps display plush clean between washes.

How do I fix flattened fur after washing?
Once fully dry, brush the pile gently with a soft-bristle brush or a clean toothbrush in the direction it lies. A cool hair dryer on low while brushing helps lift minky fabric.
Will washing remove the tags?
The tush tag is sewn in and survives washing. Remove the paper hang tag first if you want to keep it; collectors store hang tags separately.
